Kimberly Erickson, Deputy Secretary for Communications
Kimberly Erickson was designated Deputy Secretary for Communications at the California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) in August 2025, following a year as Assistant Deputy Secretary for Communications.
In this leadership role, Kimberly directs strategic communications across CalSTA’s diverse portfolio, which includes the Board of Pilot Commissioners, Caltrans, the California Transportation Commission, the California Highway Patrol, the Department of Motor Vehicles, the High-Speed Rail Authority, the New Motor Vehicle Board and the California Office of Traffic Safety. Her work ensures cohesive, impactful messaging that supports statewide transportation priorities and public engagement.
Before joining CalSTA, Kimberly served as Chief of Staff to the Caltrans Director during the unprecedented challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. She also held key leadership positions at Caltrans, including Statewide Division Chief for Right of Way and Land Surveys, Chief Public Information Officer for District 3 and Deputy District 7 Director of External Affairs for Los Angeles and Ventura Counties. In these roles, she managed communications, legislative affairs, media relations and public outreach for high-profile initiatives such as Carmageddon II, the transport of the Space Shuttle Endeavour to the California Science Center and major I-5 Corridor projects.
Kimberly earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from California State University, Sacramento.
