Alana Sanchez, International Transportation Policy Manager

Alana Sanchez joined CalSTA as International Transportation Policy Manager in July 2024. Alana served as the International Relations Senior Advisor at the California Energy Commission (CEC) since September 2015. In this role she led the CEC’s collaborative activities with foreign jurisdictions and nurtured strong working relationships with key international partners to advance shared energy, decarbonization, and climate goals.

In the course of her work, Alana developed study tours, hosted joint symposia, workshops, and conferences, and prepared clean energy programs for international delegations.  Over the years, she supported CEC leadership at high-level international events and worked cooperatively with industry representatives, academic and research institutions, and non-governmental organizations to arrange meetings and site visits and develop policy and technical exchanges.

As a member of the State of California’s International Climate Action Team, Alana routinely participated in interagency working groups, helping to prepare briefing documents and talking points, and coordinating targeted engagement and follow-up activities. In addition to managing the development and implementation of the CEC’s international agreements, Alana helped to develop internal policies and procedures to capture the value of international exchange.

Prior to joining the CEC, Alana was a researcher and legislative analyst for the Employment Training Panel. Earlier in her career, she also spent time working for the California Environmental Protection Agency’s Office of Climate Change and Office of Communications, the California Department of Resources, Recycling, and Recovery’s Office of Public Affairs, and Office of Education and the Environment.

Alana is a native Californian, with a passion for energy, environmental conservation, sustainable development and global affairs. She is a member of the Association of Women in Water, Energy and Environment, and an alumnus of California State University Sacramento, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies, with a concentration in Natural Science.
