Danny Yost, Deputy Secretary, Legislation

Danny Yost was appointed Deputy Secretary of Legislation at the California State Transportation Agency in May 2026. Yost previously served at Caltrans for 14 years in Legislative Affairs including 8 years as Legislative Director. He joined Caltrans with traffic engineering and transportation planning experience in the private sector and local level including at the City of Walnut Creek, where he served as a Transportation Commissioner. He also has experience as a fellow for the U.S. Senate Committee on Transportation, Housing and Urban Affairs and as a graduate instructor in public speaking, leadership, and public policy. He began his transportation career at Caltrans as a high-school intern in Structures Maintenance and Investigations.

Danny earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil & Environmental Engineering with a minor in City & Regional Planning as well as a Master of Public Policy degree from the University of California, Berkeley. Danny is a licensed civil engineer.
