Public Records Act Requests
The California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) deals primarily with policy, budget, legislative and intergovernmental relations issues. The Secretary’s Office does not respond to Public Records Act requests on behalf of its departments, including: the Board of Pilot Commissioners, the California Transportation Commission, the High-Speed Rail Authority, the Office of Traffic Safety, the Department of Motor Vehicles, the Department of Transportation or the California Highway Patrol. These entities may be contacted directly at the contacts listed below.

California Highway Patrol (CHP)
Guidelines for Accessing Public Records
Any member of the public wishing to file a California Public Records Act request with the California Highway Patrol may do so by contacting any Area office. Requests may be made in person, over the phone, via email, or fax. Additionally, the CHP’s website provides users with the ability to locate their nearest Area office by selecting the “Find an Office” tab, as well as learning more about the California Public Records Act by selecting the “Programs & Services” tab, scrolling to the section entitled “Services/Information,” and then selecting California Public Records Act.
