Darwin Moosavi, Special Advisor to the Secretary

Darwin Moosavi is on temporary assignment at the California State Transportation Agency as of March 2019 as Special Advisory to the Secretary, covering various responsibilities of the Deputy Secretary for Transportation Planning, Deputy Secretary for Environmental Policy and Housing Coordination, and Assistant Secretary for Ports and Rail.

Darwin Moosavi is the Sustainability Project Manager the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans), where he works on implementing sustainability and climate change related initiatives across the department. Prior to his position at Caltrans, he most recently served as a Senior Planner at the Governor’s Office of Planning and Research, where he worked on various transportation policy issues centered around building sustainable communities and reducing vehicle miles traveled. Darwin also spent several years helping build the Affordable Housing and Sustainable Communities (AHSC) program, and later served as its Program Manager at the Strategic Growth Council. Darwin has previous work experience at Caltrans, where he worked on integrating Smart Growth and Complete Streets concepts into processes and practices throughout the department.

Darwin earned his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Policy Analysis and Planning from UC Davis and a Masters in Urban and Regional Planning from Portland State University, with an emphasis in Transportation Planning.
